Tokyo Travel Guide

Tokyo is the capital of Japan and the largest city in the country. At over 12 million people in the official metropolitan area alone, Tokyo is one of the most populated urban area in the world with approximately over 12 million residents.

Getting in

Most international flights lands at the Narita International Airport in Chiba Prefecture located northeast part of Tokyo and Haneda Airport, southern part of Tokyo welcomes some international travelers from Asia. Train is the primary means of transportation to get to your hotel from Narita International Airport which is notoriously located far side from central Tokyo. You can take JR Narita Express or Skyliner operated by Keio Line to get to major train stations in Tokyo such as Tokyo and Shinjuku station.  You can also take a shuttle bus that goes directly to major hotels.  Unless you are very rich and want to contribute to Japanese economy, taking a taxi from Narita International Airport to central Tokyo would not be recommended.

Sightseeing

Akihabra; Akihabara is a home of otaku (オタク) - people with passionate interests in one's hobby.  In general, Otaku is used for Japanese anime or manga addicts who are and manga addicts who strongly feel Moe(萌え) (feelings of delightedness) about a really cute girl with anime or manga fashion or any situation related to something one is crazy about. One of the most popular spot in Akihabara is Maid cafe where otaku can feel Moe (萌え) a big time! Maid cafe is a cosplay cafe, where female waitress dress up as a cute maid and call customer as a master. The waitress treat the cafe customer as her private master and provide some extra service such as massage and ear cleaning that fulfills many Otaku.

Shibuya; Shibuya is a home of youngsters. Together with Harajuku, Shibuya is known as the major fashion center in Japan that attracts many young people from all over the world. If you go to Shibuya on weekends, you may be overwhelmed by so many youngsters walking on the scramble crossing right in front of Shibuya station.  On the uphill, there is a symbolic fashion building called 109 that stores many small fashionable shops for young girls.  If you think Japanese women is traditional wearing Kimono and modest, you will find Shibuya a very interesting to see a change of generation.

Shinjuku; Shinjuku is a major business and governmental center that houses many big corporation and Tokyo Metropolitan government.  Shinjuku stations that are run by several railways like JR, Keio and Odakyu is the busiest station in the world used by nearly 4 million passenger per day. There are many international hotels in Shinjuku area and one of the most popular residential area in Tokyo for foreign residents.  Shinjuku is also know as a major men's paradise.  Kabukicho is major nightlife area in Shinjuku that attracts lots of guys with men's fantasy.

 

Other Nearby Destinations

Tokyo Disney Resort- Tokyo Disney Resort has two major amusement parks, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney sea located in Urayasu City, Chiba prefecture just east of Tokyo. There are some hotels nearby parks.  It is one of  the most popular dating spot in Japan attracting lost of couples. 

Yokohama - Famous harbor side tourist spot located just south of Tokyo.  Newly developed Minato Mirai 21 area is known as a great night view and another famous dating spot for romantic couples.

Hakone - Famous Onsen (Hotsprng) resort located southeast of Tokyo. Hakone attracts many tourist who want to relax and enjoy traditional Japanese Ryokan (inns) and food. There are some outside onsen spots with Konyoku (mingle of men and women) so don't be shy.
